Short-Term Running Goals:

Immediate: Minimum 10+ pound weight loss by year end (size 0 pant)!! Weight goal accomplished; must have been dreaming about the pant size.  New Goal - 5 lbs by 3/1/09!

This winter: Running even on rainy days

Run a Half Marathon in under 2:11

Age Division Placement Half Marathon

Long-Term Running Goals:

Running in even 'older' age! Lifetime running.

Personal:

I have alway done some physical activity - aerobic classes, hiking, skiing, tennis.....started long distance running about twelve years ago when I was in the midst of a divorce.  Go ahead 'run' with that metaphor. I joined a Galloway running group and still have several close friends from that time.  I realised pretty quickly that I did not like the walk break method and found a wonderful coach who provided my schedules and training. I have continued to run but without guidance for several years.  Now I am determined to actually run with a goal and a plan.  I have even contacted the former coach.

I live in the beautiful northern California wine country where I must say our weather is always ideal, comparatively.  I work full time, enjoy hiking, knitting, movies, plays............I actually enjoy it all!

I have one adult son who lives in Portland, Oregon and enjoy visiting there as that area is very runner friendly and has some great routes.

First of all I must say GO UTES - in the Sugar Bowl.  Wouldn't that be just wonderful.  I have lots of bets going!!!  And, secondly Happy New Year to All!

Raining hard this morning so I took my last day of options and ran later when it was absolutely beautiful.  Great run.  Now I guess I have to get serious about the running if I want to perform well in the 1/2 - been coasting thus far...........

Carolyn - I am capable of running a 'bit' faster - I did Boot Camp for 9 months last year and did my timed miles under 7 and the 3 milers at 7:30/7:40 pace and felt ill.  I just hate pushing it.  When I decided to run with a plan againI contacted my former coach and the goal was just to get the miles in and stay strong and uninjured.  I am not typically a fast runner and my overall goal is to continue running into older age (since I am already old!).  I run the business for the two high end realtors in our company (they have placed in the top 5 nationally the last several years).  We do lots of vineyard properties and have homes up to $35M - always busy.  Sonoma is still paradise!!

Back to the Alma Mater.  I hope they win!!

You went to the University of Utah? My brother went there, but alas, I went to BYU.

You're smart to take it on the slow side to stay injury free at this point.

Hooray for the Utes - yes, it is my Alma Mater.....

Note to self: Do not run a hilly 6+ followed by11+ of hills the next day. An absolutely beautiful day for running albeit cold at the beginning.  I drove out of the garage to white everywhere - grass, sidewalks, rooftops, fields, vineyards - frost not snow.  When I got to my destination - the Carneros Wine country - it was like I had entered a cauldron.  The sun was super bright; the sky bright blue and fog was emanating from the ground up.  It look like huge pockets of steam......... Unbelievably pretty.  When I got to the Wharf (boat dock here for the Napa River) the parking lot was essentially full which I thought odd, but I jumped out and started running.  This is a hilly course with some long uphills. I added on two miles down a country road to nowhere and imagine my surprise when some cars passed me going the opposite direction.  I don't know who was more surprised.  Feeling quite tired at the end - the muscles weren't happy and were quite finished for the day.  Got back to the parking lot and did a quick jog around it in a total fog.  I swear I hit the sky when I bumped into a man who scared me so much.  The boats were coming out of the river and being hitched to their respective cars and I was trying to avoid them thus running into the man dressed in camo carrying a gun. Oh my.  Once I was able to speak and had time to look around I saw many, many guns and the boats were all camo.  Then I burst out laughing.  They were duck hunting.

We went into the local restaurant for breakfast and it was a little more occupied than normal with folks ordering beer and tomato juice and white wine.  My stomach was doing flip flops at the thought.  Once again never know what you will see when you run............

I'm glad no one mistook you for a duck in the fog. Sounds like a beautiful run, though. Way to go on the hills!

Great run! I love your descriptions of the conditions. Oh, but the hunters! Yikes.

From Becca on Mon, Jan 05, 2009 at 09:24:31

Wow that must be a lot of fog! I'm accustomed to camo (and guns) due to living on a military base, but I imagine it would be quite startling in a different environment!

I had the worst day of my working career yesterday and it took a lot just to make it out of bed this morning.  The run was cut short because I started late.  Nice morning rounding a corner to lots of singing birds - I said 'good morning' outloud to them.  Did they answer or was it my imagination.  So pretty, the sunrise this morning.  As I rounded a corner near the end of the run there was the sun - this incredibly huge orange ball hanging low in the sky.  It was not completely round due to the fog - it looked like some artist had painted it with too much paint and the bottom was starting to run.  Life is Good!!!

I'm worry you had a bad day at work, but it sounds like your wonderful run compensated and you have such a positive attitude now.

Carolyn said the exact same thing I was thinking! I sure hope better days are ahead. Thanks for sharing bright side of the day!

I am back - did you miss me????  The worst day turned into a dreadful week replete with stiff neck to the weekend where I have my annual cocktail party - 45 guests this year!  But my coach who came to the party kicked my bottom and I am back in gear.  I have my airline tickets for Little Rock and am set to go.

Today's run was delightful. I felt like I was on vacation it was so warm (70s now) - it felt great.  When the sun came up the entire sky was orange - absolutely beautiful..... that big bright full moon was still hanging about, but now misshapen like somebody had kneaded it!  So pretty - and I was just so thankful to be running.  It felt great.......

Yes, I wondered what had become of you. I'm glad you're back.

I can't believe you were able to wear shorts. I was just out for a 20 minute walk and my ears are frozen.
