Hooray for the Utes - yes, it is my Alma Mater.....
Note to self: Do not run a hilly 6+ followed by11+ of hills the next day. An absolutely beautiful day for running albeit cold at the beginning. I drove out of the garage to white everywhere - grass, sidewalks, rooftops, fields, vineyards - frost not snow. When I got to my destination - the Carneros Wine country - it was like I had entered a cauldron. The sun was super bright; the sky bright blue and fog was emanating from the ground up. It look like huge pockets of steam......... Unbelievably pretty. When I got to the Wharf (boat dock here for the Napa River) the parking lot was essentially full which I thought odd, but I jumped out and started running. This is a hilly course with some long uphills. I added on two miles down a country road to nowhere and imagine my surprise when some cars passed me going the opposite direction. I don't know who was more surprised. Feeling quite tired at the end - the muscles weren't happy and were quite finished for the day. Got back to the parking lot and did a quick jog around it in a total fog. I swear I hit the sky when I bumped into a man who scared me so much. The boats were coming out of the river and being hitched to their respective cars and I was trying to avoid them thus running into the man dressed in camo carrying a gun. Oh my. Once I was able to speak and had time to look around I saw many, many guns and the boats were all camo. Then I burst out laughing. They were duck hunting.
We went into the local restaurant for breakfast and it was a little more occupied than normal with folks ordering beer and tomato juice and white wine. My stomach was doing flip flops at the thought. Once again never know what you will see when you run............ |
